soft dreams meet the hard edges of reality

$850.00

30” x 40”

acrylic, metal foil, resin, charcoal on canvas

since i was very young, i dreamt of riding horses forever and ever. it was everything i wanted and everything i was. i spent every day, that soon turned into all my years, chasing the dream. it was a sport that taught me the beauty of hard work and patience. the more time spent putting in the work, the more i could grow into the athlete i dreamt of being. there was no question of my direction and purpose when in the midst of my journey. my greatest accomplishments have been from riding so many of the kindest and the most beautiful horses. most notably, my first horse, sisi (painted in this piece) who taught me to never question the value of perseverance and extreme ambition. i am so indebted to this sport for who i am today. this piece paints the picture of when my dreams were met with a harsh reality. an accident that caused me to face the impermanence of this life. physically one of the harder moments but mentally the biggest battle ive faced. when fear begin to loom over what once had been my source of confidence, i faced a mental change that left me unable to recognize my own thoughts. i have spent the past two years learning to accept the hard edges of a dream and to not forget the softness that once was. depression, anxiety, and loss of identity and innocence is a part of my personal journey of growing older. something i would have never thought to be true has become. i made this piece to symbolize my deep love for my past and for the appreciation of the change in direction of my dreams. i am so thankful for all that i have been given through my time with each and every horse. passion is something so sweet we are granted in this life. i am grateful to know that so well and to continue to find it in new ways, like my love for vulnerability and expression through art. i wish us all to chase our dreams and to breakthrough the hard edges and find that softness again.
